The Center for Technology Research and Industrial Transformation (CTRIT), affiliated with Hansi Association for Technology Innovation and Development, recently announced that the number of funded youth projects in 2025 will expand by 30 percent compared with 2024, and the maximum funding for a single project will increase from HKD 60,000 to HKD 80,000. This is the largest upgrade to the association Young Technology Talent Support Program since it was launched in 2019.
A CTRIT representative said in an interview that the expansion decision was based on a systematic evaluation of the effects of the association youth project funding over the past six years. Data show that among youth projects funded by CTRIT over the years, 41 percent received an Excellent rating in final review, significantly higher than 32 percent for general projects and 28 percent for key projects. The vitality and creativity of young researchers often exceed our expectations, the representative said. We should provide them with more opportunities.
Youth projects are aimed at young researchers under age 35, with a funding period of 10 months. Funding amounts have been adjusted from the previous HKD 30,000 to 60,000 to HKD 30,000 to 80,000. Compared with key projects and general projects, youth project review places greater emphasis on innovation potential, uniqueness of research direction, and the applicant growth trajectory, with relatively flexible hard requirements for prior achievements.
The association also announced that the 2025 youth projects will add a Cross-Disciplinary Exploration special program, dedicated to funding research directions that cross traditional disciplinary boundaries and are difficult to describe with a single label. The establishment of this program responds to the growing demand among young researchers to explore non-mainstream directions.
The application channel for the CTRIT 2025 spring youth project round will open on March 1 and close on April 30. Young researchers may submit application materials through the association official website and do not need to be association members to apply.
